Crews Make Quick Work of Basement Fire; Prevent Extension to Rest of House

Around 10:45 this evening, the first alarm was dispatched for smoke in a house in box 5-02, which is in Company 21's response area. Engine 121 (FF Tschinkel) responded, heading for the closest hydrant to deploy a 5" supply line. Chief 5B (Matter) arrived to find a single-story home with heavy smoke showing. Engine 121 arrived a moment or two later and wrapped the hydrant, laying 5" hose to supply Engine 220 (CAPT 20) with water. Engine 213 picked up the hydrant, standing by to charge the supply line, if needed.

Interior attack crews determined the bulk of fire to be in the basement, which was well involved with fire. They were able to make a quick knock down, preventing extension to the rest of the home. Overhaul began and lasted about an hour and a half before crews returned to service.
